I’ll often end a client meeting with the following words…

“If anything major changes between now and when we next meet in terms of rules, legislation or markets: I’ll be in touch.

And similarly, if anything changes in your life which impacts your goals or finances - just let me know”

December and January tend to prove that Take That were wrong.

Three recurring conversations I’ve been having for the past six weeks?

Of which two are had at the same time every year:

• New Job - impact on income - impact on employee benefits such as Death in Service and other perks.
• Divorce - unfortunately, December tends to bring issues to the surface. Impacts absolutely everything.
• Pensions - the one which doesn’t happen every year, but as a result of the Autumn Budget, this is still very high on the priority list with regards to Inheritance Tax.

January is a busy month for new starts, routines and 31 days of doing, or not doing, something every day.

But it’s important in all that rush.

To just stop.

And ask.

“What has changed and how will it impact my future?”
